Is there any way to measure the oil in the transmission? I know it takes 1600 cc's but I thought I read somewhere, and I can't find it now, that there was a screw that could be removed and then you fill the transmission with oil until oil flowed out at the correct level. Was I dreaming this?

Near the kick starter you will see a hex bolt with a philps screw head in it. Remove it,and you should see a drible of fluid. The fluid should be up to the hole. Hope that helps

Thanks Ron. That's the info I wanted. I guess I'm not nuts afterall. I don't think this is in the service manual or the owners manual. At least I could not find it last night.
