I'm wondering if my port valve is messed up. My bike runs out of steam at around 4000 RPM or so. I'm checking everything Itiming, carb, etc) and now I'm adjusting the cables. I'm looking at the port valve. While rotating the throttle, I see the half circle piece that the port valve cable goes to rotate just fine. NOTHING else moves all the way to full throttle. I see the stop screw (with nut) but what is touching it is not moving at all. This sounds broken, right?
Unfortunately the parts catalog does not show details of the port valve, at least my doesn't so I don't really know what the individual components look like.
Any thoughts??
Thanks!

Dave,
You are going to have to post a picture... I am not sure I understand what you are trying to say...
I will help if I can...
Best,
Jess

I talked to Sam this morning. He says I have a stuck port valve (not uncommon). He gave me the procedure of putting the bike on it's side and using penatrating (sp?) oil on it for a few days. No wonder the bike runs out of steam at 4000 RPM or so.

Nah! I don't need to take it to Sam but I sure needed his advice. It took me the better part of a week to get the port valve unstuck. Bike on its side, lots of penetrating oil, lots of patience and a few calls to Sam for moral support I finally got it unstuck. It took probably 3 or 4 days just to get ANY motion out of it. I started it tonight and it ran a bunch better. Revving higher. Better power. There is still some roughness in the mid range but I have not properly set all the cables up properly with the recommended procedure.
