I have tested dot 5 brake fluid in my low mile bike and I feel I may have given it enough time to report my preliminary findings but be advised, I am still evaluating the change over in fluids .
I changed the factory fluid in a very low mile bike approximately in 1977 and over the years have flushed it again maybe twice. So far so good but this is only meant for discussion and I will continue to evaluate the change over. still testing

Sitting and not riding doesn't do our bikes any good. One caliper is slightly dragging now. It is so nice to
roll our bikes around with free wheeling and no brake dragging if only slightly. Still a fan of Dot 5 if only
for the paint protection it gives.

I wouldn't use anything else.
It is NOT hygroscopic. HUGE Benefit
It is not nasty when it gets everywhere. I still have not figured out how to bleed brakes without making a mess. HUGE benefit.
it does NOT eat anything it touches. Best Benefit of all... IMHO

Agreed, Agreed, Agreed. Had to replace the pistons when I got my RE-5A, they looked for all the world as if some beetles had given up on the trees and had taken up a new hobby, to say nothing of the rust colored Yuck that was left inside the calipers.
One more vote for DOT 5. You've got a bike with the best brakes of the era. Treat 'em nice. I never regretted it.

Using Dot 5 in my vintage bikes for 15 years. Advantages as described above.

I found a beautiful worm wood walking stick and I left it for the next weeks kids to use. Tim

As all other post replies Dot 5 is the way to go, take the time and clean the system of traces of old brake fluid using methylated spirits and dragging the brakes will be a thing of the past on vintage bikes that don't get used much.
