Just got the bike on the road and sorted, now the oil pressure light is on at idle, does it ever end? Attachments:

Maybe you picked up a little speck to cause the oil pressure regulator to stick , dumping oil pressure ,they have extremely tight tolerances. What RPM does it go out at? Is anything new or changed? You can inspect the pick up tube/screen, that has an O -ring seal as well as the end cap and try a new oil filter. Caution when checking oil pressure or re-installing the oil pressure sender and don't over tighten the sender or you will need a regulator. Keep us posted as I want to hear that pipe!

Could be oil filter as well- a friend recently had that exact problem on his. Swapped back to an original filter and problem fixed. Probably an issue with the anti drain valve?

Couple of questions if that's OK...
What does it sound like?
Did you do the repaint? If so, how was the colour replicated? I've got to do a headlamp bucket on mine and will do it myself. I know it's a black base with a blue flake over the top then clear but am having difficulty sourcing the right flake. There's a mob called paint with pearls who sell three possible colours but the flake is a bit fine. They reckon they can supply larger flakes but aren't answering their emails at the moment. Sorry for the thread hijack!

The exhaust is a little on the loud side right now, the muffler is a vintage "street" Yoshimura with baffles inside but it in not enough being a 2 inch exhaust so I just ordered a "Harley" baffle to go in the front pipe about mid way. The bike is SOOOO much lighter with the header and runs a lot cooler.
Thanks for the word on the oil filter, I have run this one for a week with no issue but I will check out a different one.
The paint color is 2012 Mazda blue with Big Daddy Roth med blue metal flake, I wanted bigger flake and was not going for an exact match, I just liked the color. Bike was the orange color but it was in VERY bad shape when I got it. Still need to get the engine cleaned up but need to find a polisher who does not want my left arm for payment, may do it myself when I get some time.

Thanks for that. I'd like to try an exhaust like that as well- I've got a SU carby for the bike so why not go an exhaust as well? Naturally the original parts will be stored to revert to original if required. ..

I always thought it would look good to mount a K75 BMW triple exhaust, which had a rotor body and exhaust shaped tip. I don't remember the years but it was the flat mount era and the 4 cyl. model was popular to smoke on start up.
Whats the good news on the O.P.lamp?

I just swapped out the filter for a NAPA gold filter and with a quick start up I had no oil light, did not have time to take it down the road but I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for all the troubleshooting ideas.

The oil pressure light is finally out, I removed the bulb. Just kidding. I cleaned the pick up, changed the sender and put some fresh oil in the bike and it is good to go. Got the new baffle made so the exhaust is better sounding now and I got my lower foot pegs done and mounted so I have some more leg room. Bike made a 160 mile round trip to the Kansas City vintage bike show, I was the only RE-5 there! I only did about 28 mpg there and back.
