;D After many years of sitting idle with it's fuel slowly evaporating and leaving behind a deposit in the fuel lines and carburettor that you could seal a road with, a careful clean and the experience of son to help his father, a new battery, replacement gaskets in the fuel tap along with the modification to get rid of the vacuum tap, fresh gas, full choke, a couple of stabs of the starter button and after many years of silence my recently purchased and lovingly restored RE5 sprung into life. A real "Woo Hoo" moment. All that remains now is to replace front wheel brake caliper seals and pistons, relicence and a long ride is in the not too distant future. Pictures will be posted in the not too distant future. My sincere thanks to Jess and Barbara for their guidence and steady supply of spare parts when needed.
Cheers......Roy - hitch001

Very exciting moment when you work that hard and it pays off. Another one back on the road.
Enjoy Jeff

Congratulations! They really are a fun ride, this morning I rode mine to work and was admiring how well it handled for such an old beast.

If everyone wasn't aware of the importance of a clean carb, this bike proved it. The bike itself is as near new looking as you can get so we thought stick some gas in and see what happens...... Turns out not much, i pulled the carb off for what appeared the very first time for it and after removing the main and secondary jet plugs saw the gunge that had accumulated in the bottom of the carb. We didn't have an ultrasonic cleaner handy but after much spraying with carb cleaner and some compressed air wew Re able to clear the essential passageways. As Dad said, first prod of the button and vroom! Very satisfying it was too especially after the fuel leakage probems with the tank itself. Am looking forward to a road trip with the ole fella!
