Follow-up. Just remove the push side all the way to the throttle on the handlebar?

Not really sure I understand your question...
I just cut the cable and remove the ends at the throttle and the port valve...

Cable attaches three places... Throttle, carb and port valve...
Cut at all three locations and remove...

Any update? Did this cure the problem? Does the bike run better after 40 mph? Does the advance work better now? Does the carb adjust easier now? Did Lassie rescue Tommy from the well??

I can't remember this thread now. I think it was my stuck port valve that was giving me grief back then. The RE-5 is running "pretty" good. It's not perfect in the 3500 RPM range. I'll get back to it sooner or later.
