My temp guage is showing the temp way higher than it is. I've plumbed in a digital temp display and at around 70 celcius the temp is off the scale on the dash. I took the sender out and tested it- looks about right at 88 celcius (44 ohms- within spec in the manual). Is the manual wrong though because it says the next test reading should be 210 ohms at 110 celcius. My sender is going down and maybe it's meant to be 21ohms?? I've also heard of voltage regulators on the dash causing problems. Thoughts anyone? Next stop is to test the other dash... just can't be bothered right now....

Thanks Rog, the thread I found described how the reg fails and the temp gauge doesn't work at all... but yes, I'll test my other dash and see. Thanks

The regulator should put out around 7 volts. If it is higher than that (like full battery voltage) then your gauge would read higher.
Also, if the ground wire coming out of the gauge and going to the temp sensor was shorted to ground your gauge would go to full hot very quickly.
The gauge itself acts like a bi-metalic thermostat and if the bi-metalic strip sustained some damage maybe you would get a false reading. If the very fine heater wire broke the gauge wouldn't work at all.
