Hi all, after watching the extortionate prices new old stock points were going for on ebay I have been searching the net for a cheaper replacement part, having seen the similarities between the early NSU and Mazda engine and carb I wondered if the points would be anything like the RE5's.
I was going to keep this to myself but, yes they fit and they are a lot cheaper, there are 2 possibilities the JP-9P set which has a wire attached to it and the JP-10p which has a push fit connector, I went for the JP-9P (it was the cheapest at just over £5 inc delivery)
There are some slight differences the locating pin on the back of the points is 0.24mm larger than the locating hole, a quick file and it went in. The heel looks longer but that may be because it is new, this is easily modified if required.
The new points are fitted, timed to fire +10degrees BTDC bike started up ticks over no probs. (have now been out for a test run everything ok)
The Mazda the points are for are the MX-2 & MX-3 the 808 look close. See attached photo of points in the bike.
Regards Stuart.

There are alternatives... The issue is modifications...
To my knowledge, there are no "drop in" replacements.
Several years ago, I tested sets and found an excellent replacement.
The few sets I supplied were sent back to me because the owner did not wish to enlarge the centering hole on the points plate as then it "would not be stock"Also, once the plate is drilled, a return to stock points is problematic as the adjustment becomes more temperamental due to the points having room to move. This necessitates more frequent adjustments...
I still believe that the future of the bikes has to be in an electronic ignition replacement. I spent countless hours and a great deal of money designing a replacement that IMHO solved the inefficiency of points and the outdated technology of the CDI.
My system was plug and play, no permanent modification and eliminated both weak points of the stock system (black box and points). It was met with some praise, but mostly criticism.
I applaud your innovation. Thanks for sharing!

I can attest that the Rotary Recycle electronic ignitions drop right in, work perfect and in my opinion are worth every dime.

Criticism?
Nice big fat spark.
Oh, the cdi is gone.
My bike runs flawlessly in huge part to the installation of the RR ignition system.
I will never go back. Hell, I'm gonna sell all of my extra point sets.
Thank you again Jess, for your contribution to all of us.

Hey Jess, do you have any of those electronic ign units on the go? Do you have a supply of them or do you make them up as required. The bike that I have runs fine but am suspicious that the spark isn't all that it could be, leading to it being a bit tricky to start on the colder mornings. Cheers Gareth

Hi to all,
Just to clarify, I have not adjusted the hole on the backplate I have modified the points locating pin, this was not a criticisism of Jess's electronic ignition, but for those on a limited budget who need a set of points this is an option to keep the bike running untill such time that they can afford the elecronic ignition, or for purists amongst you who want their bike to run on points.
Regards Stuart.

I too can confirm that Jess and Barb's Electronis system works, and how, mine fires before the starter gets a chance to spin, is sooooo smooth, and now has top end power it never had before, It's like riding a different bike.
S'not cheap, but you get what you pay for, it's worth every penny. :-)
