OK, so I noticed the last couple of times I started my bike that it was even fussier than usual. My bike has never started with the choke on, and can be a pregnant dog when cold. She always starts easy when warm however. But I recently had a couple of times when she didn't want to restart when hot. She acted a little differently too, catching and running a few rpms, then dying again. She had been starting better with the kicker than with the button as well, but I had established good voltage and charging rates. Anyway, after a very difficult cold start, finally resorting to the kicker, I had her on "high idle" (which is what I think of the enrichener,) and I went back in the house to clean my helmet lens. Coming back out I noticed the bike wasn't running anymore....very odd. I then also noticed a deafening silence....no whine. So in my investigations I noticed that the whine was still there at times, just very inaudible. I also noticed that turning the key of and on sometimes produced a "blip" of full volume from the CDI. I did bypass the switch and harness and sent full battery voltage to the CDI orange wire at the block connector, but still only a weak warbley whine. I have also verified that the CDI does not ground through the case, but through the black and white wire, and that ground appears to be good. I think my CDI must be bad!!! Now I've got a spare on my "turd" bike; don't know if it works. Finances aren't going to allow me to purchase the new ignition system from RR at the moment, but I'm more inclined to do that than purchase another CDI off Fleabay. I figure if my CDI can fail at 3200 mi., then I shouldn't bother to buy another because apparently it's age that kills them, not mileage. Any thoughts?
