The rack looks great, John's products are top notch, but what are those long shroud shocks?

I just wondered because not much seems to fit the RE5......Honda CB750 shocks look very similar to the long shroud ones on your bike, but from memory I think the fork at the bottom is too narrow so it's very interesting to see some other shocks pressed into service, especially as there is always the possibility they might be better than the Suzuki originals which are now in short supply.
If you ever find out what they came from I'd really like to know. As it happens I think they look pretty good on there with the long shrouds.

Mick,
Those appear to be an aftermarket replacement that we supply...
Just my 2 cents

Hi Jess, you learn something every day, I didn't know you had an aftermarket option for shocks that resembles the originals in most respects.....so that is good to know.
Thanks for that.......Mick........kettle738

try as I might the chroming company can't get the chroming right in one area. the problem is around the cross member between the two sides of the grab handle. see picture. so I've decided to offer bare rack and you can get it chrome by who ever you choose. price is £70 this inc pay pal fees, plus postage. if you are UK based then sending a cheque will be £67.00 plus postage. john

Just a question. With the price of Chrome and the availability of good shops would it be more economical to build the racks out of Stainless Steel and polish them?

as for stainless it would cost to much. 1st of all just to weld stainless, I would need argon gas and s/s wire, wire alone would cost £70, gas £80?? last time I ask for a quote on a 18mm x 6 mtrs tubing was just under £100.and it will take longer to make due to hardness. and I would have to buy new tooling as the ones I've got a designed for mild steel. s/steel would bugger them up in no time. so for me to sell just a grab rail would cost around £90/£100 and possibly more. and I would need to sell quite a few just to get my money back from investments.so it wouldn't be viable for me to make rails from stainless. and I dont think folks would be happy paying that much. there was a French guy selling a T500 grab rail for £60 but that was 10 years ago and it didnt quite look right.
to be honest as they are now even with poor cross member chroming its still value for money considering you cant buy them. with a dremel tool it may polish up nicely?
I even contacted a UK company to see if they are interested in making and selling them to me.... unless I order a 1000(just one type) no? not interested.price ?? they never said just to give you an example... rear brackets made in the USA would cost me around £200 inc p&p. had a local firm made me some (same amount) £400! I had no choice I had to have the made in a hurry. I can buy some thing's cheaper in the USA than here in the UK. is there any wonder why things here are going pear shape.

Thanks for the info. I have had some incredible prices talked about for chrome work here in the states. The government has some stringent rules for the shops. I have an original rack I would like to get re-chromed but the cost is over 4 times what I paid for the rack new.
Keep up the good work

I had a quote for a Rack a while back and this was over the phone.. so it could end higher . £80 plus vat @ 20% =£96.00 where I get mind done is no where near that. all cash in hand... I've never had any one winged about the quality of chrome with the exception of a couple but once I explain to them the cost of getting quality chrome....., my feed back is 100% I dont hide any thing from the punters if there is some thing that is not right.
