The RE-5 was running well today. Front brake OK. Radiator no leaks. Tires good and true. I don't know about the metering pump yet (still have oil in gas). I'll get a graduated cylinder soon.
But I'm wondering about RPM. I don't let it rev too high but I get the feeling that if I opened the throttle full in neutral, it would not get to redline. I would guess full throttle I could get 5000 or maybe 5500 RPM. Does this sound right? Power seems good when I ride it, not that I take it too far yet, just up and down the block but acceleration seems about right for a 60 HP engine or there abouts. What do you all think?

You should be able to get it to redline. Does it just cough and sputter when it hits about 5000?

No. It's running smooth. Maybe the tach is bad.

The re5 motor was designed by Suzuki to run without failure to 10K Granted... you spin it that much it wont last long... Running the bike to redline on the tach is fine... going past red line from time to time won't hurt... but it won't do you any good. The horsepower curve is all done at about 6300 rpm... Hope that helps... Best, Jess
