I'm currently undertaking a complete restoration of my M model. Earlier this year I carried out a compression test and the readings looked pretty good at about 120 psi. I ran it all summer with no problems apart from its horrendous thirst for sump oil. I'm stripping the engine down at the moment. Tonight I started to examine the proper unit and used a borescope to examine the internals through the exhaust port. To my dismay, I found that there is an area of what looks like deep pitting and corrosion in an area at the bottom most of the unit on the inner wall that the apex seals pass over. It looks pretty bad but hard to tell exactly without a strip down of the proper unit. It looks as if, in its past, water may have collected in the bottom of the unit and caused the corrosion during a period of standing in its past before I owned it. It looks like I may have to replace the unit, is there anyone in the UK with a good proper unit they'd like to sell? If I can't find a replacement I may have to run it with a damaged unit until I can find another one or afford to ship one in from RR

I missed that one Stuart Then again, as with anything bought from the States, on top of the postage there is the VAT that Customs will charge and there's no guarantee that its a good one. I'd rather buy one from Jess, at least I'd be more comfortable that it was a good condition runner.

The same seller had other parts listed. The side plates for the proper showed a lot of issues. I'd be interested in seeing a close up of the surface where the apex seals ride before I invested in this one. He had an (almost) complete set of seals listed as well at one time, but apparently sold them.
