Hello,
I'm getting deeper and deeper into my restoration/cleaning. Radiator is now off and I also removed the reservoir.
The plastic reservoir has brown gook inside. I've removed a lot of it with dish detergent, hot water and a lot of shaking. It's ok now but I would really like to clean it thoroughly.
Is there a chemical that will break down all scale and gook inside?
Thanks,
redbug2

As funny as this sounds - plug the fittings and fill it with diet Coke. Let it sit for a day and the acid in the coke will dissolve any rust and oxides. Then clean again with soap and water.

I think that I asked this question not too long ago. After a few answers, my wife suggested dissolving a dishwater tablet in some water and then pouring it into the subtank. I let it sit for a while and then shook it around etc and it thoroughly cleaned it out. Looks almost new and much better than I thought possible.

Tried diet coke and then regular coke, took a little bit out but not all of it. Dissolved a dishwasher pellet and put that liquid in. I submerged it in a bowl and every day I would empty out half the liquid and shake it, then refilled. Every day the brown gunk would get lighter. Today I microwaved the tank with 1/2 the liquid for 1 minute. A little more shaking and all of the brown is now gone.

Also with the coke add a handful of nuts or ball bringing while shaking. Acts as a medium to remove the hard stuck on residue .Greg
