Hi every one, Anyone in the UK near Doncaster with a compression tester that I could hire, borrowor purchase to check the condition of my engine before I overhaul the carb. Keep the advice coming. Stuart. Attachments:

You will need a carb kit from RR.
Good carb cable settings, fresh clean fluids, good spark plug, strong battery, clean and properly set points, new air, petrol and oil filter.
That's a start. All the answers are here.

Hi Martin & Steve, I live in Dunscroft about 6m east of Doncaster have only had it a week so could do with a second opinion on some of its possible problems, going to take the carb off this week end and have a poke inside, suspect a couple of blocked / damaged jets, plan to get it ultrasonically cleaned to clear any blockages before having another try at setting the carb up starting the bike and testing the oil metering pump. Regards Stuart.

I know old cloth cap, he's not sold any RE5 parts for a couple of years now. Don't think there is much or if anything left.

I bought one on fleabay for £20 this week. Ok so it's not going to be the most accurate and best made tester on the planet but it should be good enough to tell if your seals are OK or not.

I have ordered a new electronic rotary compression test kit. it looks easy to plug into my PC and save or print the same graph type test. I will let you know how I get on when I get it. Rog

Thanks for that Rog, I'm waiting of my carb coming back from RR after a rebuild, the bike would start and run but someone had messed up the internals of the carb big style trying to get some fixed jets out. So never ran very well, it feels like it has plenty of compression, the air comes out of the plug hole hot when the engine is turned over on the starter.
Regards Stuart.
