That motor is huge compared to the motor in the RE5. It would be cool to take an RE5 and see if it could make it cross country.

To Frank:
Great photos thanks for sharing... Still enjoying your Herc?
To Gary:
They engine is tiny compared to an re5... Optical illision ;D Motor is about half the wieght of an re5 (about 35 pounds)
An Re5 competed in the first iron butt competition and I believe tied for the win.
You could ride any of my Re5's or Hecules coast to coast and back with no issues... Your butt would wear out long before the bike.
Best,
Jess

Jess, I enjoy the W2000 very much, ride it much more than the RE5. Matter of fact I like the W2000 so much I would trade my RE5 for a W2000 in like condition.
Gary, Jess is correct about the Iron Butt. In 1984 a RE5 finished 1st in the competition. Also when I was a member of the LeMans America club (a GT750 club that also accepted RE5 owners) they used to talk about a couple members in California that had more than 200K miles on their RE5s. So I suspect a good running RE5 would make a good long distance touring bike.

That's what I'm hoping my RE5 can be. A decent and dependable touring bike. Compared to my triples, it seems way more comfortable to ride. I'd be happy if I could take a 500 mile round trip with the bike and still feel comfortable when I return home.
I guess that most of what I see in the frame on that W2000 isn't the actual motor. It would be nice to find one of those cycles around here. I would get it.
I think I better start watching the cycles for sale again. This is the first year in quite awhile that I didn't purchase another cycle.

The motor on the Hercules probably looks bigger because the Hercules is a tiny bike! The RE5 dwarfs it when they are side by side.

By tiny, do you mean like a Kawasaki S2 Triple or Honda 350, etc.?

I am not sure on the size of the S2 or the Honda 350, but it is tiny next to the RE5. I think it is probably a little smaller than the Suzuki GT380.
