Have you seen it in person yet? I don't remember if you mentioned that or not. It will make a nice Christmas present to yourself if it arrives by Christmas.

Hmmm didnt i post it to this site with the Barber vintage meet pics??? i'm certain i did somewhere. Ok if i didnt it was a brain fart moment. Actually the bikes NEEDING work, a lot of stupid things are in dire need of attention before it goes on the road. So heres the quick list of crap i saw in poor to deathtrap shape. Hard plastic tyres, ill have to cut these cracked up things off they are soo hard Forks leaking, seals and oil obviously long gone. Calipers sticking, i dont even want to imagine the condition of the internals also. Brake hoses in trouble, cracks galore Steering feels notchy, bearings, bearings. Carb leaking from pump diaphram, hmmmmmm plus the wonderful hesitation. Petcock wont shut off fuel, rebuild pending Gauge cover, faded out Tank needs a cleaning Oil leak pissing from behind sprocket cover,,three possible causes for now Chain,,,, worn out,,,,,,what chain, sprockets seem to be average though. Rectifier connector melted,, yes another one. Soo there you have it for now,, a death trap, and to think i had it up to nearly 70mph, ooohhhhh thats living on the edge. Luckily i got some parts from Sam to affect the repairs that are strictly RE5 related. This is where its nice to own some GT 750s too, parts that are common items are always in stock, well ok in my parts department that is. Anyways heres the bike at the meet in Alabama just as it was purchased.

Congrats on getting it home!
Your 70mph maiden voyage sounds just like mine! Bad brakes, nice hesitation, 30 year old hard plastic tires, and amazingly nobody died.

Well Tom the RE5s got rather sedate handling so its hard to really get it out of control by some blasts up to speed on a rather bland piece of road thats not too difficult to ride on. However having said that it did give me an a** clenching feeling a few times when i went for brakes,,, Those are 'anti stop' units when they have issues and not much better when they are working correctly. Ten years ago id have booed the RE5 as 'junk' if id seen one after all these years, but finally i get what the guys in Hammamatsu were trying to achieve. Just let it do its thing at its own pace, and you can actually enjoy it..however those stock wheel barrow handlebars will have to go.
