I'm having fun bringing my RE-5 back to life. Question. How in the heck did Suzuki iget away without a dipstick or sight glass or something to check transmission oil? Heck, if I had a slow leak, I'd be scared to death!

Hi jess,
Level plug? Where is that? I just looked over the Owners Manual and Service Manual and I don't see anything. The Level plug is not the filling plug, is it? Is that 1600 cc's??? I put in 1600 cc's and it didn't come up to the filling plug...
I read the book, honest!! Do I have the right book??

Dave,
Put the bike on the center stand on a level floor. On the clutch cover (right side of the motor), behind the rear brake pedal is a ten mm screw that should be slotted for a phillips head screwdriver.
Pull this screw and if oil seeps from the hole, your transmission is full... If it pours from the hole, you are overfull. If no oil comes out, you are under full...
Pretty sure it's in the service manual somewhere, but anyways a very common design in bikes of this era.
Hope that helps buddy...
Best,
Jess

Hi Jess,
I see the phillips head screw. Thanks. If it's in the Owners Manual or Service Manual, they sure are hiding it. My wifey does accuse me of refrigerator blindness though.
