Hello everybody,
Just viewed the new owners motorcycle in the US, black A model with alloy wheels. Does anybody have any information on the alloy wheels themselves, are they orginal Suzuki? If so, off what model, year etc or does somebody have a front and rear wheel for sale?

There is another brand that will also fit. They were called 7 stars and will bolt straight on. They are alloy in colour with polished outer edges. But they are pretty crappy. You have to look hard to find one with decent machining for the bearing fit and they crack if you put them through hard riding on unsealed roads etc.

I've got them fitted to my model, a UK dealer fitted option, i believe they were marketed at the time by Dunstall. Can be seen Here www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/bikes/classic_bikes/Suzuki_RE5.htm Apparently they were fitted to the bike to shift it off the showroom floor as it was sitting there for a few years

I have a set of Lesters on my "A" model. They are fantastic and allow me to run modern tires tubeless, which is obviously very nice.
I was thinking of selling them separately from my bike because of their rarity, but I'm leaving the whole package together.
I know Jess has some and is knowledgeable on them, as is the Left Coast RE5 guru, Tim... Same Tim on Jay Leno's Garage website. That's who I got mine from. You'll be hard pressed to find any.
I've also seen a set of GS450E wheels mounted, but there are issues with axle diameter to be addressed. Also, I believe some modification of the rear drum brake arm is required. I have a GS450 wheel that I was going to test, but ran out of steam when seeking a bearing option that would allow use of the RE5s substantially beefier axle.

I bought the bike last July from a chap based in Dereham, Norfolk. Its a UK supplied M model and according to him the bike sat on the dealers showroom floor unwanted, after a couple of years he swapped the standard wheels for alloys soon after the bike sold.
It's been repainted and had a few squids spent on chrome work here & there, nos exhausts front & rear guards etc. The other mod is the ignition system has been removed & replaced with a Boyer Bransden ignition system (kit 0069) which runs off one set of points, seems to work perfectly, there is a slight run off when closing the throttle, but its not a problem, dont know why Suzuki made the system so complicated in the first place. It does suffer from the 4K-rpm stutter but again its not a problem, might have a play with the carb settings this summer.
The bike is lovely to ride, a mate commented it felt like new and to be honest I'm surprised how good the handling is, the rear shocks are a bit sporty & not as spongy as my GT750, I was expecting a soft ride, this one is quite harsh over rough roads, potholes etc. but the handling is really good. This is definitely the best bike in my collection (although the RD400 comes a close second). I'm just about to order the plug adapter from Rotary recycle as both my standard plugs are playing up a bit.
Give us a wave if you see me out & about on it in the South London area (when it warms up that is) All the best....
PS anyone going to the Bristol show?

Yes I thought I recognized it, it was Steve T's bike. Looks good.
If I remember correctly he got the electronic ignition idea from me as that's what I use on my A model.
Regarding the Brisol show, the Taunton and Bridgwater section of the VJMC will have a display stand, part of the stand will have a rotary theme with two RE5s, my M model and an A model.
My sectioned RE5 engine will also be on display.
Make yourself known if you are there, that goes to all.
Some good reading in February's CMM on RE5s.
