I have started modifying mine. Nothing too drastic, but had a custom seat made (cafe style). Also got a new led tail lamp. Ditched the intake box for a cone filter.
In the near future, I'm having a custom exhaust made. I'm also trying to find a replacement oil tank. Anyhow, happy modding.

I'm toying with this for a paint scheme. It's only paint and since it won't be "original" anyways... Attachments:

Sam Costanzo wrote me some time ago telling me about modifying and racing RE5's. He says that they tried Bing flat slide carbs and even blowers. He also put in extra clutch plates to handle the power and at one point either he or an associate squeezed one into a modern frame.
But in the end, he told me that a geniune 125 mph was about the practical limit and that "there is only so much you can do with a single rotor". Please note emphasis on practical. You may be able to do considerably better, like our bloke down under, Brett Destoop, who has squeezed over 230 mph from a waterbottle.

Ditto on the previous comment - Sam once told me that he and his friends tried engine modifications (fuel injection, I think) and tried reducing the weight of the bikes, but were ultimately limited by the engine displacement. I had always suspected that Jess was one of those folks trying to squeeze extra HP out of the engine...

Thank for the info . i have been distracted by an xn85 that i am trying to buy to complete my factory turbo bike collection. i pick it up this Sunday very hard to find only 300 units sold in the US. Now about the RE the plan is simple turbocharger of a 2.3 ford, carb of seedo jet ski ;D. why you may ask #1 rotary,s respond well to boost #2 turbo is from my harley went to larger unit so no added cost #3 the carb is also at no cost but the main reason is it has low /mid and high adjustment screws so no jets to change. I HATE JEETING ;D. One more thing sorry about the grammar only 5 years of school in the US will do that to you .

I live in near West Point, not as far upstate as Utica, but if I say NY then people assume NYC which is only 1.5 hour drive from here. Eric

I have two Kawasaki GPZ turbos:
One I had since 1987 and I rode it regularly for about 20 years. I have an 810 kit for it, but it needs other work too, like a clutch and front brakes. I have all the parts, but no time to complete the install. And my mechanic friend is going to actually do the piston install, because I don't have ring compressors and if I do it, I am likely to break a ring. Despite the fact that I have been working on 'stuff' for 30+ years, I never rebuilt a four stroke engine on my own.
One is a 1984 bike that I bought from a friend because he needed cash. It has just under 5000 miles on it, and it is in very, very good condition. I keep this one in my living room.
I have no extra parts for the turbos, other than a cylinder block which is already bored out to 810cc and the parts (special head gasket, oversized pistons, clutch plates, etc) to get it all together. (Actually, I have the original exhaust from my first turbo in a box in the attic - in case I go thru inspection and fail for the aftermarket exhaust, I can put the original exhaust system on, go thru inspection, and then take it off again-I needed to do this once, when I lived in WA state).
Do you need specific parts? - I know a guy with a wrecked one in his shop. do you want to buy the whole 810 kit, because I have no idea when I will actually have the time to do the install, or when my shoulder will heal enough to actual ride a motorcycle (I fell off a ladder and my left shoulder was badly injured, and it is taking so long to heal that I wonder if it will ever heal...) Don't get me started on doctors, MRI's, or surgical solutions... But I can assure you that I can't push a bike out of my garage without assistance, and I have no confidence that I should be on a public road on a motorcycle until I have strength and a full range of motion on that arm.
Let me know what you need, and I will be in my friends shop later this week.
Eric
