I have a 1974 RE5 ser # 12365. It has the orignal "dashboard". This one also had the dual points setup that when decerating, the 1st set of points was not used and the second set fired every other time. Suzuki removed that setup shortly after I bought it (new), They called it back in again to rejet the carb. It was slower after the rejet. About three months later the engine blew. Suzuki replaced it. No trouble after that. What are the "M" and "A" models? zorg

M and A are Suzuki model designations... They typically refer to the year (ex. 1972=J, 1973=K, 1974=L, 1975=M 1976=A)
The M model Re5 is considered to be the early bike. It has the "Rolodex Gauges" and softball turn signals... The A model uses more conventional styling.
The interesting thing with the Re5 is that frame number has nothing to do with A or M designation and there are no factory records as to Frame # X was an M or an A.
Basically, there is no real mechanical difference in the M and A. The only difference really is cosmetic...
With regard to the single vs. dual point set up... not really an M or A issue, more of a production improvement issue...
Hope that helps,
Best,
Jess
