It’s easy enough to test a 3 phase bridge rectifier with a multimeter if you research on-line, if multiple rectifiers have failed then it will not be producing DC and your battery will not charge.

The rectifier needs a good ground earth threw the mounting on the battery box. Also they are renowned for melting the block connector and creating a bad connection or short across the phases . The regulators are adjustable and explained in work shop manual

I've fitted a solid state rectifier/regulator for a Gt750, i fitted it where the connector plug bracket is under the right hand side panel. Works a treat

Ray --
Plz put this info into the "Parts Crossover" Thread. I lost a rectifier once and had to steal the replacement from the "Parts Bike". S'no fun...

I will do Charles. When I get home next week I'll find the part number and post a pic of where I fitted it

My friend who's also motorcycle mechanic, spent the afternoon with the bike and assured me its the rotor thats demagnetised. Anyone had this problem before? Can it be magnetised or just a new one will solve?

Can it be magnetised or just a new one will solve? This only from memory, was the key on? I say that because the field coil is fed by the regulator to energize the rotor. Great replies from everybody. Tim

You can use a generic rectifier- I used a 240V rated one on mine and it works perfectly. All it does is convert AC from the alternator/stator to DC. Has to be a ? two/three pole one? Can't remember as it's been a fair while now since I did mine. Use decent thick wire and new connectors as any poor connections will results in melting connectors and wires...
Or change the alternator/stator cover over and measure it up. Looking at your readings it's probably the stator if you've disconnected it from the system and done an AC voltage check.

Yes, did AC readings and got on all windings 6v at idle and almost 12v when around 4000 rpm. This has to be alternator problem, right?

Thanks, I believe its the windings, nevertheless im tempted to change for this regulator/rectifier to avoid future problems.

To fit mine, I removed the bracket that holds the connector plugs under the right hand cover then the regular lines up directly with the brackets bolt holes.
