Does anyone have a parts match list for the parts that will be the same part for the GT750 and the RE5??
I guess that everyone can see that if the part is for a RE5 it has a premium attached to the price but if the same part is called a GT750 part it will cost less. (Its a bit like a hoop for a formal dress is $40 but the same hoop if you say its for a wedding dress will all of a sudden be $140 )
I know of a seller who has 3 GT750,s which could supply some parts for not much money. If you have any relevent info PM me your number and i will call

Heres most of the parts i can recall that are a direct swap from the Buffalo to the RE5. Naturally there are various small items brackets bolts etc and other small bits not shown in this list. I hope this helps. Ft hub Spokes Tyre Tube Disc rotors Brake calipers Disc pads Brake hoses Fork legs complete, same as 74 GT750 model with chrome upper caps Ft axle Speedo gear. Speedo cable Tacho cable Lower and upper steering trees Steering head bearings Instrument mount rubbers Rr view mirrors, both sides Speedo, temp unit and mounting bracket for A model RE5 same as 74-76 GT750 Left clutch perch/lever Brake master cylinder/lever Handlebars Lighting switch gear same as 75 GT750 Headlight ears/rubbers and bowl/sealed beam unit for A model RE5 same as 74-76 GT750 Steering lock Seat lock Fuel tank ft mounting rubbers Rr fuel tank strap Coolant expansion tank and strap Radiator cap Fuel tank cover lid and lock same as 76-77 GT750 Petcock fuel filters fuel tank cover cap Exhaust pipe header flanges Exhaust pipe header gaskets Indicator relay Indicators for A model RE5 same as GT750 Footpeg rubbers same as 74-77 GT750 Oil tank eye Seat hinges Kickstarter Rr swingarm bushings Rear brake shoes Rear hub Rear tail lamp unit on A model RE5 same as 73-76 GT750 Rear tyre Rr spokes

The fenders are very different, the chain guard and swing arm is different as well however the gearbox parts are the same as the GT750. The clutch basket is very different too since it has the chain drive mechanism onto the rear portion. I'd say the RE5 is about 30% GT750 parts on average.

Bump, We need to make a "sticky" of this thread (or maybe I should just print it out). It takes me about 1/2 hour to find it each time. Are we sure on the chain guard being different?

That's a useful thread . There are a lot of cosmetics used on the GT range that are used on the RE5, The Kick start is shorter and a Goose neck shape on the RE5 . The GT 750 Kick start can be used but is not the correct one. Rog Attachments:

There's a couple of weird anomalies that I've noticed - I've addended Allan's list below: Heres most of the parts i can recall that are a direct swap from the Buffalo to the RE5. Naturally there are various small items brackets bolts etc and other small bits not shown in this list. I hope this helps. Ft hub Spokes Tyre Tube Disc rotors - '75 onward onlyBrake calipers Disc pads Brake hoses Fork legs complete, same as 74 GT750 model with chrome upper caps - they are ostensibly the same, but I think the RE5 forks are longer?Ft axle Speedo gear. Speedo cable Tacho cable Lower and upper steering trees Steering head bearings Instrument mount rubbers Rr view mirrors, both sides Speedo, temp unit and mounting bracket for A model RE5 same as 74-76 GT750 - RE5 km/h speedo face is slightly different, the scale is smallerLeft clutch perch/lever Brake master cylinder/lever Handlebars - I dunno, the RE5 bend is pretty unique, it's different to my '74 GT750Lighting switch gear same as 75 GT750 Headlight ears/rubbers and bowl/sealed beam unit for A model RE5 same as 74-76 GT750 Steering lock Seat lock Fuel tank ft mounting rubbers Rr fuel tank strap Coolant expansion tank and strap Radiator cap Fuel tank cover lid and lock same as 76-77 GT750 Petcock fuel filters fuel tank cover cap Exhaust pipe header flanges Exhaust pipe header gaskets Indicator relay Indicators for A model RE5 same as GT750 Footpeg rubbers same as 74-77 GT750 Oil tank eye Seat hinges Kickstarter Rr swingarm bushings Rear brake shoes Rear hub Rear tail lamp unit on A model RE5 same as 73-76 GT750 - not exactly, the RE5 bracket has a series of holes along the top that the GT doesn't haveRear tyre Rr spokes Of course, what Allan has said is true - the parts listed above will fit perfectly, but there are some subtle aesthetic differences, and the part numbers will be different.

Good info, thanks. Handlebars definitely not the same though for us/au models.
Re the kickstart, even many M models have the straight kickstart but I believe the S shaped one is one of the very originals. Sam Costanzo wrote quite a bit about the kickstart issue many years ago.

And if they are not supported, the VAST majority of incompatible RE 5 parts for which we have NO alternative will be truly unobtainium 'coz RR has gone out of business. And don't expect any kind of fire sale if they do close, nope, they'll just shut the doors on the inventory they do have. Supporting RR is not making ANYBODY rich over there but it's keeping all of us on the road in more ways than one. There's nothing easier than belting off an email to Barb and having the EXACT parts on my door a week later. And even If it did cost more, I'd still be doing it because no else is going to be looking after the RE5 like RR has for 30 odd years. Please don't forget the unique and special resource we have here. Wayne (from OZ)

I really like the 72s front brakes and the sound as the air cleaner was not as silenced as the 74s and the exhaust with the cones sweetened the note, but you can't beat the 74s for drivability with the CV carbs.
On a side note, the fuel tank lid cushions are back in stock 44276-37001 Thanks for the rear tank seat/ cushion cross reference.
