No I am not giving away a free RE5. But I thought that it would get your attention. I was given a 1975 RE5 touring. I thought I would share my story and try and take you along the journey that is about to begin with the restoration of the bike. In Sept of this year some friends, my wife and myself went to Bonneville Salt Flats to compete for a record. We were 5 MPH off of the record we were trying to break. While we were out there I meet a older gentleman named Jim and became friends. We got talking about motorcycles and he just said " I got an RE5 that I would just give someone if they would restore it". Well I must admit that at the time I did not know what a RE5 was, but I have the sickness that if it has two wheels than I want it. This will make 5 bikes at my house. I told him that I would love to have it and tried to pay him for it. Well he still will not take any money for. I have been reading and studying all that I can about the RE5 and the history of the bike. So far this is what I know. I have a 1975 with the touring package. 17000.00 miles on the od. It is blue and all the pieces are there. It ran 9 years ago when the starter failed. Jim was not strong enough to kick it over anymore so he parked the bike. Fast forward to present and now it sits at my house ready for some TLC and rebuilding. I hope that I will be able to get it going and let Jim see and maybe even ride it again.

Wow, congrats on the find. Where are you located? I'm in Utah, but don't make it out to the flats often. That's very cool it comes with the touring package. Its funny you mention he's not strong enough to kick start it anymore. I weight close to 200lbs and work out 5 times a week, and I still can't kick start mine. Guess there's a reason they put such a large starter on em. Keep us posted on the restore progress!

It's great that you got the bike and will restore it. I'm sure that your friend Jim will be very happy that he gave it to you once he sees it restored and running again. It will be interesting watching your progress.

Shep, I am located in Mobile AL. Had to have the bike shipped for SLC.
As an update I plan on doing a cleaning on it this weekend. I will try and put some before and after pics up as I go.
Jess I will get you the numbers. I would like to find out everything that I can about the bike.

How can I add two pics at once? Just add the first photo to your post like you normally do, go down a line or 2 to space the images and add the 2nd photo link just like you did the first one with the insert image button. Preview your post to see if it came out right and then post it. I found it easier to put in the web address to the picture and then highlight the entire web address and then click the insert image button.
