Hi fellow RE5 owners can anyone help a distraught chap. Having just fitted a mint set of factory panniers to my RE5, today it fell off my bike stand and damaged one of the trims on the edge of the lid grrrrrrr! Does anyone have a nice trim or complete lid for sale? Or failing that has anyone found a reasonable looking substitute?
regards Terry

today it fell off my bike stand. Very sorry to hear that, Terry. Not sure if these folks may help but they are the go to point for our Rotary Truck club. jjautofabrics.com/locate-us/Tim

This is a photo of the set I restored. I searched for the original trim and I am 99% certain that is was made by Trim-Loc in California. If you look on their web site under products then select Plastic Profiles, then Lip Guard and at the bottom of the page you will see a profile that I think matches the original profile, but that shape is not available. If you order the 7/16 Chrome you will get what you see in my picture. Before ordering I called to inquire about the two versions that are shown, their reply was that it was just a old drawing that didn't get changed when the trim changed to what is available now. I asked if there was somebody there that might have been there in 1975 in hopes of pursuing an old roll of the original that was forgotten in a dark corner of the warehouse, the nice person replied that the longest any employee had been there was 25 years. So I excepted the dead end search and went with the new version. As a side note the 3M tape that comes on the trim is no good ( My painter told me it wouldn't stay, and he was right ) I had to redo them with Fusor double stick tape that he recommended. That's the first 3m product I've come across that wasn't good, resulting in another time consuming lesson. It has to be purchased as a full roll from Trim-Loc so the retailer J&J Auto Fabrics that Tim posted a link to should be a good source. I also found the chrome seat trim shown on the Black full dress A model from Sams museum and purchased it from J&J Auto Fabrics. I read on the thread that Re5Mike started about his give away RE5 and Wayne mentioned he had made the set of Panniers shown in the new owners ( Buzsaw ) post with his picture link. So maybe Wayne will have a source for suitable trim.

Hi Terry, sorry to hear that. I can empathise having a bike with an NOS tank fall over some years ago. The tank caught the radiator crash bar of my GT750 on the way down.
I got new trim from Sam Costanzo for my firemist orange set. It was a near perfect match to original. It wasn't old stock. By the quality of chrome highlight and the peel off paper on the self adhesive it looked like something Sam had sourced recently. However, that was around 20 years ago.
