Hi Thanks for letting me in. I was directed here by a few guys on the Suzuki Re5 Owners Club Facebook page (I guess that you're all here as well ). I dont own an Re5, yet, but I've had a hankering for one since I saw my very first M model "back in the day". Even though the press haven't had many kind words to say about them, and even though they seem to command really strong money, and even though parts are rare and expensive, I still have a hankering for one...am I mad!? My latest projects are as finished as far as working on old bikes are ever finished (a 1976 Suzuki GT750 and 1973Honda CB750) so I'm looking for my next challenge. I've restored and recommissioned a fair few bikes, 2 strokes and 4 strokes in the past but never had anything to do with a rotary engine, so I may well be asking some questions . I am mad aren't I? Cheers Russ

Yes. You're quite clearly bonkers. Welcome to the club!
Good luck with the hunt!

Welcome Russ I have recently sold my F2 and owned a GT some years ago. The RE5 is definitely a “Marmite “ bike. If it get into you and doesn’t frighten you, you may love it for years . Lots of info on here and help from owners if you need it . If i can help in the UK . Msg me . Rog

Be warned, I've noticed RE5 newbies start by tentatively dipping the toe in with one bike and in no time at all seem to end up with 3 or more (ANDOUILLEMAN, who you'd know on Facebook as Aaron, has got the disease much worse than most). The guideline used to be not to buy a "ran when parked" bike. Often you could find a nice original bike that was parked in 1982 and left to rot. Without a compression test it was a risky buy as rebuilding an engine (proper unit) was a difficult option. However, we now have engine rebuilders in NZ, AU, EU who can do it using brand new RO80 kits. In the UK, as Rog (HGH 770N) has suggested, you can give him a call and look at options. He knows his way 'round an RE5. An experienced restorer once told me that the easiest one he'd ever done was the RE5 because, unlike other bikes, Sam Costanzo and Rotary Recycle in the US was a one stop shop for everything you need. While Sam has passed and Rotary Recycle is not officially a recycler anymore, its new owner, member JESS is still a one-stop shop for expertise and experience. While NOS parts have all but dried up, JESS still has a stock of good used stuff so he's definitely worth contacting. Meanwhile, you need one of these ,
