If the bike had been stood for 18 years in damp conditions without engine been turned over there is a chance the side plates have oxidised and Rotor tips rusted in. A borescope is useful up the exhaust manifold to look see. I have stripped many units down with corrosion on side plates and seized corners. Turning the rotor on corroded plates may lift the inlay . They is lots on info on this site about 1st start after storage. Every unit could be different. If the rotor is damp free, some premix 100/1 pet/and low ash oil (GTX) in spray bottle I find useful to squirt through open carb and turn rotor over slowly using the 17mm bolt head on balance wheel. The carb may also be corroded or gummed up . If all is ok I would use the same premix in the tank until you are sure the metering oil pump is working. Just my experience Best Roger

ts1551 Here's a couple of links to threads that may help you. re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/604/re5-new-ownerre5rotary.proboards.com/thread/1983/eng-15739-years-wake-gentlyAnd some more from Roger HGH770N 20-w50 ash free oil. Suzuki recommended at the time Castrol GTX that is now available sold as Castol”Classic “ There are other oils available just make sure it burns “ash free” Replace coolant and check pipes for hardness and cracking. Clean and check points and static timing . Clean carb and blow dry with compessed air through as all galleries with jets out. Turn engine over without plug until you have oil pressure. I would compression test if you have tester before you fire up. If thats OK.

Thank you guys .. I am not familiar with Re5 s but i do have been racing with Mazda Rotarys for 35 years . My M model came from a collector Museum and was oil in everywhere frame wheels engine you name it . It turns over when i kick it and gives compression in all 3 chambers . What I can`t understand is why you don`t use 2 stroke oil to premix in tank and also use in the oil tank .
Can anyone give mi a reason why ?
Thanks Tommy

Tommy Sounds like you have a corrosion free unit. 2t oil doesn’t burn ash free and iff used in Rotors would leave deposits in chamber and coke up tips and rotor. Castrol GTX or similar burns clean. The RE5 is a high compression you should find it hard to turn over on kick start . As Wayne sagest, compression test would be a good tell tail sign of a good unit before you try and start up.

Tommy, just to add to what Roger has said above and to make sure there's no confusion, the premix in the tank is only a precaution when starting a long laid-up RE5. Once running, you'll be able to confirm that the engine driven metering pump is working and then you would no longer use the premix in the fuel tank.
Just a point re the whole 2 stroke oil thing. Firstly, it's not a 2 stroke. It's not a 4 stroke either but the cycle is closer to a 4 stroke than 2 stroke.
Secondly, people can debate all they like re the new oils. It may be the case that some 2T oils will work but why would you? There is no long term test of an RE5 that I've come across anywhere to verify the suitability of modern oils. Castrol GTX is ash free. It was recommended by Suzuki for the RE5, it's readily available, it's really cheap. Long term we do have RE5's on the board that have clocked well over 100,000 miles without rebuild using "old technology" (but recommended) oils.
If it ain't broke, why fix it?

It seems like you have a point here. I vill go for the old way . I vill also dismantle te carb and have a look before I try to start it up. odn of course change the oil in the engine and oiltank .
Next question .. Is there a set of cooling tubes you can buy for this bike ?

Tommy, if you're in Europe, the Rotary Owners' Club in the UK has a stock of genuine Rotary-Recycle plug adapters. That should save shipping / tax etc from the USA etc
