Sorting thru my new to me RE5 that has been sitting for 20 years, have done most everything to get it going and now seem to have no spark or humming, am learning something new everyday on these bikes. I see in some old posts about a Boyer Bransden box people were using but nothing current. they say to use a KIT00069 ID IGN contact asst. neg earth and a COIL00005 coil. Both of these seem to be available. Any reasons to use this or not to use this setup???

John Myself and a previous member tried a Boyer conversion about 6 years ago. The pickup was located on the inside of the statter plate after removing Bob weights, the idea was to have timing that was mappable so to alter the advance and maybe even improve or remove the harmonics that caused the drive grinding and chain whiplash. The Boyer Unit only lasted a few hours and failed. It was returned the Boyer and when we explained what it was used for they were not sure interested in replacement only a refund. The idea is still on my shelf together with the primary belt conversion and other ideas. I seem Too busy with rebuilding and service work to look at any ventures lately. Good luck. I have spare good and NOS CDI unit if needed . Msg me if I can be of any help. Best Rog
