If you don't mind me asking, how did you unseize your engine? I have an almost identical bike (less fading, looks like mine has been inside more) in an almost identical running condition.

hi, i took off exhausts, manifold, carb and its manfold, radiator in fact everything just left with a rolling frame with the engine in and then put a lot of penetrating oil in the exhaust port, port valve and plug hole for 2 weeks. then i took the clutch cover off to gain access to the 32mm nut on the counterweight, i then removed the wheels, forks, swing arm and triple trees which allowed me to put the frame on it end (headstock down) and put more penetrating oil down the plug hole which let the penetrating oil go round the top part of the rotor and housing, i did this for about three days and then used a 32mm socket on a breaker bar moving it back and foreward gently it took about ten minutes to do one complete revolution.
hope this helps Steve

Still trying to figure out what caustic fluid I want to pour down the throat of mine. I have been reading different opinions on anything from transmission fluid, to penetrating fluid, to straight oil. One person even suggested straight wintergreen oil (always wondered what that smell was in certain penetrates). Of course for almost every (except straight oil) fluid there is someone saying no don't use it... Main worry is the apex seals BUT in my mind those seals should be tougher then piston rings as they do the same thing but have higher heat to deal with. I mean if it can handle 1800 degrees, then it should handle some PB Blaster eh?
I will be sitting on pins and needles (needle bearings?) waiting to see pics as your project moves forward.

I think when they say not to use ATF its because it can ruin the rubber orings that seperate the water jackets, and not the apex seals (correct me if i am wrong).

Stappy,
The issue is not the apex seals or springs taht you have to worry about... It is the rubber orings that seal the rotor housings, Water jackets ect...
Any penetrant that attacks rubber, (atf) is a bad choice in my opinion.
Not much will hurt the metal... rubber on the other hand...
That is what I would keep in mind...
Best,
Jess

Ok, so I used some penetrant and the followed it up with straight motor oil. I opened the end of the clutch cover and put a ratchet on the bolt and it took very little effort to break it free... YEEE HAAAA, on to the next stage. Check and clean points and install a battery!!! It now kicks over on the kick start and makes a loverly thump thump sound out the exhaust pipes. Fuel tank looks and smells awful but hey, I have been there done that before... Sorry again about hijacking this thread but I figured since I starts doing I should at least state how it came out. Thanks again.

Congratulations on freeing up the engine, are all your apex seals working i am still trying to free 2 of mine, a lot harder than freeing the engine.

How do you tell if they are stuck? So far all I have done is stick my finger in the hole and cranked it over. Certainly blew the finger out ;-)

You will hear it through the exhaust (or spark plug hole if plug removed) if any seals are stuck. If all 3 are not stuck you should hear 3 good even pulses sequentially. If any are stuck you will hear various degrees of sound and air movement with each engine revolution. It will be pretty obvious by the sound.
