My first international Ebay transaction since July 1st. Aussie members will understand the significance of this. July 1st is when the AU Government compels certain overseas sellers to add GST to purchases. Previously, international purchases were free of GST or import duties when below $1000. Thank you Gerry Harvey.
But to add insult to injury, eBay's Global Shipping Program (GSP). I bought 4 sets of rings for a Suzuki GS750 from a very helpful ebayer. First you have to pay their shipping charge ($16US) to the GSP centre in Kentucky. And what did eBay's GSP charge me for shipping 4 sets of piston rings? 64 additional USD for items that could be held in one hand and weigh something you'd measure in grams or ounces. That's a total charge of 80 USD or about $106 in my money (remembering we were dollar for dollar with you guys not long ago. $106 in my money hurts as much as $106 in yours). $106 to ship something that'd fit in my back pocket? Thank you very much Global Shipping Program.
On top of that, the import charges were about $25US. I can live with the latter but this GSP system...……..
Still, it worked out cheaper than buying from Suzuki who will now only sell you oversize rings along with the pistons. Roughly double what I've ended up forking out.
