I'll be removing the clutch cover this winter to look at a clutch drag issue. I'm looking for a gasket for that side of the engine. I've used the 2 sets I had and was wondering what you guys think about reusing the old one if it's in good condition. If not, is there a source for patern gaskets in the UK ?

Ray,
Proper gaskets for this era of motorcycle are made from materials that have compressability. They can really only be compressed once.
That said... if it dosen't leak... I guess you are are fine. I have no idea if anyone on your side of the pond was stupid enough to spend the money to make that die, for that gasket. Some of the other fellows over there might chime in.
I never reuse the main case gasket as it is a pain in the rear if it leaks. You need to drain engine oil, trans oil, and coolant. Messy job, and wasteful of expensive new fluids. My motto for working on things is, "if it's almost right, It's still wrong".
Just my 2 cents, YMMV.

In school the procedure was bring the bike in and drain the fluids the night before. You will need hip boots and a wet suit. Thanks Tim

For info, it is possible to remove the clutch cover without having to drain any oils - coolant will still need to come out though... The dodgy side-stand angle on RE5s is actually a blessing after all! Find yourself a spot to do it all on a slight angle, and arrange the bike so it leans 'down hill' on its side-stand. Remove the clutch cover with a drain pan beneath the RH side of the engine, just in case the level of gearbox oil was a bit high, I guarantee you will lose at most a hundred ml (into the drain pan, natch ) Of course, this arrangement has the advantage that the area you're working on is angled up at you as well - nothing like trying to undo those bolts along the bottom of the cover while grovelling on the ground otherwise... I have done this a couple of times to my bike, and I've checked the oil level when back together and had to add only a small amount to get it back to normal. In the words of a certain Dilmah Tea representative - "Do try it".
