Member typ110 (Michel) has posted information about NSU RO80 seals. The Ferrotic apex seals will fit the RE5 and can be obtained from the website below. The website is in German but the fact that they have the seals is far more important. The company that sells the Ferrotic apex seals has a website: www.nsu-ro80.de/ You can contact them directly through their website. Michel has sent me the pictures of the seal sets that are available. I have reproduced his email on the subject below followed by the pictures. Best news we've had on engine rebuilds, thanks Michel. Further to this, Michel has supplied pictures of some seal alternatives. 1. the ceramic seals of Dr. Fabritius. I posted his email address in the other thread. Sadly the small triangular end pieces are not on the picture but they are included in the buy. They are still in metal. Note the dimensions, they have to be very accurate to have a good compression build up. 2. The ceramic seal of the Ro80-club. They took a different way: the two-piece solution. Works great. 3 Comparisation between RE5 seal and the Ro80 seal. Dimensions are the same, the even look the same....There is a small difference: the side pieces are a little different in width but this is compensated in the center piece so the overall length is the same. Dr Fabritius ceramic seals (edge pieces not shown but included in the set) RO80 Club ceramic seal RE5 (top) RO80 (bottom)

As far as I can tell, the apex seal centres are 46 euros each and the corner pieces are 23 euros each, so 276 euros for a set? About Au$386.
I'll try to order a set in the near future- I've sent them an email so we shall see how good google translate is!

Andy,
Let me know if you ever need any help with German translation.......
The Rotary Owners' Club has a few German members, some who also own Ro80s so might be Ina good position to assist.

Hi Andy,
I am not sure about the others but I know for a fact Dr. Fabritius has new springs.....I have used new springs in some of my rebuilds but I have also used the "old" springs with succes.
My opinion: as long they are not damaged and have resilience (is this the right word?) in them, there fine. The springs are only needed to build up compression during cold start, once the engine runs, leakgasses behind the seals and centrifugal force do the rest....
Have a nice evening (or day :-)
Michel

Thanks Michel- should have read this before I posted the same question in the other thread!
I agree- just wondered if the springs were available.
I'll post up my reply email and see if my translation is even close...

So here's the reply I got: Sehr geehrter Herr Summers, gerne mache ich auch Ihnen ein Angebot. Mit freundlichen Grüßen My google translate came up with: Dear Mr. Summers, I would like to offer you an offer. I can give you the sealing strips and Which provide corresponding density hoppers. Before that, the whole amount should be on My account has been received, and the bank does not deduct any expenses because The transfer comes from abroad. It is also important that you give me your Precise address, what I should write exactly, so the goods Also with you also arrives. Here is my offer attached. This offer is reserved for you for four weeks. Best regards Not entirely sure what the "density hoppers" are though I'll look into how to transfer to the german bank and most likely get an order happening soon.

Hi Andy,
Google translate always makes me smile! The "density hoppers" are the small triangular pieces ont the side of the main apex seal....The other translated sences are quite good and accurate.
Normally you should have enough with the Eban and BIC number to transfer to a European bank. Let me know if I can help when you have trouble communicating with them.
Have a nice day,
Michel

I would also like to purchase a set of apex seals if someone is willing to help. I am interested in the 3 piece set, but I would also be happy to try the ceramic.
Thanks, Brian
