Hi I first posted a few months back to introduce myself when I first got my RE5, but this is my first technical question. I am in the process or replacing a fork seal which is of course a simple job.. unless I am doing it. I ordered part 51153-19D10 which replaces the obsolete 51153-34730 from: www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/mx/my-suzuki/vintage-parts/vintage-bikes/vintage-bikes/gt750/When I took the old seal out, underneath it was a thin stepped ring that looks like part 51156-31230 'Ring Oil Seal Stopper', but I am not sure. The problem is that in the parts manual the 51156-31230 'Ring Oil Seal Stopper' is above the fork oil seal, not underneath as it was when I took out the old seal. My questions are: 1 Should the 51156-31230 'Ring Oil Seal Stopper' be above the fork seal as in the parts manual? 2 Is it correct/ok to insert the oil seal into the outer tube and then insert the inner tube? The service manual seems to say put the inner on first and then slide the seal down using a special tool. 3 Is there a correct way up for the oil seal? To me it looks as though the more heavily bevelled edge should go in first. Thanks in advance Gerard

The oil seal stopper should go above the seal as shown in the parts book.
It's okay to insert the seal first and then the inner tube. Just be gentle when you slide it in. I use a piece of PVC pipe of the right diameter to gently drive the seal in and put the inner tube in later. None of the last 5 bikes I've done are leaking years later so I think you'll be safe.
The bevels should point down into the tube (if you know what I mean).

Thanks for the help.
Fork seal now replaced and not leaking. Used some Deoxit to fix the sticky front brake light switch. Tomorrow for the MOT and away we go again.
