RE5 owners. There is widespread ignorance about our bikes that lowers the respect, understanding and value of our bikes.
One such site is Bring a Trailer.com. Sotheby's recommended this site for selling things. There are some really rare, cool things , and rotary powered vehicles appear frequently. Right now there is a Hercules and a 76 RE5. This site allows comments. Many of the commenters know a thing or two, but sadly many are talking who don't know jack. There is a trend to trash the RE5... which hurts public perception and value.
I would encourage some of you to sign up, for two reasons. One, it is a great site to see/watch some cool stuff for sale, and to add your comments and knowledge to the currently lacking knowledge base of these "experts"
It has a worldwide viewership. I have seen exotics go for 400,000, and pick up trucks for 4000. I have learned a lot, but get frustrated when ignorant things are said about stuff, especially stuff I own, like my RE5.
I , we could benefit from some other informed RE5 owners chiming in when these topics or bikes come up. Thanks!!

On second thought. Go at your own risk. I'm pulling out. Last post with them. They seem more into being clowns, than sharing knowledge. Sad. So many automotive web sites turn into this type of stuff. I have no interest or time.

Speed,
I.stopped commenting years ago.... All it would do is cause me aggravation..I am a firm believer in the old saw... Never try to teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time, and annoys the pig.
There is so much misinformation and self appointed experts that I just flat gave up a few years ago. Some of the "popular" stories about the Re5 are so ridiculous, it is frankly comical.
People will believe what they want to believe. Also, the anonymity of the Internet has been a significant detriment to truth, as well as courtesy. People with far greater computer skills than I can produce a very slick website, and if it becomes popular.... It becomes truth. People also are willing to speak to another person in a way that they would never do, face to face.
What amazes me most is that most of the negative comments come from folks who have never owned one.
I used to own a 1950 series C Vincent Black Shadow. My bike was a rarity, in that I ACTUALLY rode it.... A lot. If every guy that came up to me and said he owned one had really owned one, they would have had to make 100,000 of them. (They only made about 1800). I guess my point is... I take everything with a salt shaker in my pocket.
I will say will absolute certainty that I don't know everything there is to know about the re5. Sam did... And he wrote about 11000 pages of notes. He was the authority and unfortunately he is gone. I miss him every day.
I will also say with SOME certainty, that I do not believe there is anyone alive that has laid hands on more re5s or w-2000s than I have. Does that mean that I am an expert? I can't answer that question... But I am always open to sharing my experience and love for these machines with anyone.
Just my 2 cents... Your mileage may vary...

Correction.... My avatar says I'm an expert.... So I must be. . Lol... Best, Where did you hear that? The Internet. And you believed it? Yeah. They can't put anything on the Internet that isn't true. My favorite quote “The thing about quotes on the Internet is that you cannot confirm their validity.” Abraham Lincoln
