Yes, I'm afraid it's nerdy time. Is the original colour of the fuel tank covers gloss black or satin black? About to repaint mine...

Andy . I have several used ones and all seem to be NOT high gloss, I had mine powder coated some years ago thinking the original had just faded I'm not sure if satin is correct or a 3/4 gloss like the frame , I always waxed polished it with the tank that created some sort of shine .

I have two NOS ones, one for the RE and one for my GS. Not only are they nowhere near gloss, my drunk uncle Fred could do a better job with a rattle can. Paint quality is okay on the RE but atrocious on the GS (probably had no money left after the RE).

Perhaps they didn't bother polishing them because they knew that the type of owner to buy a rotary bike would be constantly polishing it anyway?
