After 4 years of looking for a 1976 re5 I finally found one a mile away from my house . Conditions looked very bad . Price was not bad at all 400 dollars . By had engine seized and have not been turned on in over 5 years . According to owner it did not have spark at all. Trailered bike home . That same night I got the engine lose (took me about 30 min ) . Next day drained oils . That were mixed with water and replaced them with fresh oil. Next was the spark issue . Cleaned all connectors and got spark right away . Yesterday took the carburetor apart cleaned and mounted back on bike. On the first crank bike turned on and idle perfectly. Bike only has 4700 original miles . Just needs lots of attention before is road worthy . Will post pics tonight.

Haha. Thank you . I will keep up the updates . I have been dealing with rotary cars for many years . My first rotary bike to match my rx7 black and gold .

Best looking rotary production car ever made IMO. The early shape looks dated but this still looks the goods today, 13 years since the series ended ?

1995 was the last year in the United States. Mine is 1993 with 50k miles . I have had all models and I agree with you the 3rd gen style never looks old .

Well done! Sounds like you got a bargain there... Nice car too- I had a red '93 which I bought as an insurance repo and fixed up. Really nice car, wish I hadn't sold it of course but babies don't fit too well in the back! Almost surprised to see an American FD that hasn't had an LS1 engine swap!

Nothing wrong with that at all! Lucky sob! Even the chrome looks pretty good. Good to see another one revived. Just one thing- don't ride a modern bike for at least a month before riding it- bikes have come a long way in 40 years! You'll still have a grin on your face though...

I have owned many rx cars over the years... The last one, I let go just a few years ago. Unfortunately, I got old and became a BOB... ( big ole boy). It has gotten much harder for me to get in and out of those little cars... My favorite rx7 story happened about 30 years ago. I was coming back from tx on old Route 66 in my 85 gslse. One of my dear friends built engines and chassis for the Unser race teams. He had built a monster 13B that spun well past 10k RPMs and I was doing 155 indicated when a THP officer passed me going the other way. As we were the only two cars on the road, I knew I was done for. Before he hit his lights and turned around I had already begun slowing down and preparing to pull over and wait. I have never understood running. It only makes things much worse. This time I figured I was going to jail as THP is notorious for not having any sense of humor.... Once I got stopped, the passenger side carpet burst into flames... When the trooper pulled up, I was outside the car ripping the carpet out of the passenger side as it had caught fire from the heat of the header. When the trooper got to my car I was standing on the side of the road with a pile of smouldering carpet and my passenger floorboard still glowing cherry red. Apparently when going that fast it is best to slow down over a period of time and distance to let air cool the exhaust header down to a reasonable temp. Who knew? Thankfully he took pity on me and figured I had been punished enough... Funny now... Not so funny then. While I don't have any wankle cars, I have lawnmower engines, chainsaws, a couple of boat motors, some sled motors and a couple of bikes left... Guess I'm still a rotor head. Lol... Many fond memories. Love my machines... Best,
