After I changed the Combination meter on my RE5 with a much better looking one I have some problems. Temp.gauge doesn't work anymore (not with the new unit, neighter with the old one back in place) There is now one single orange wire (inside the headlamp unit)that is not connected. It gets current when ignition is on.Could someone on the board tell me what it's used for. (PS I have theRR. El.Ignition installed)

Fonny,
There are some wires on the re5 that go no where. I believe the orange in the headlamp bucket was for a proposed daytime running light. I have a few preproduction euro headlamps that were set up for a ruining light.
Several of the plugs on the M front harness can be interchanged. I suggest you go back and recheck your work carefully. I would guess that you have transposed two plugs.
Best,
P.S. I am sure my ignition has zero to do with the problem.

There is a wiring diagram in the back of the manual.

There is a voltage check for the voltage regulator in the combination meter that powers the temperature gauge, you can check that as OK. Go to resources, parts and service, service seminar and about page 40 is a check for that.
Re check that the wires match both sides of the connectors as, Jess and others have reminded us, when connecting the similar appearing connectors in the headlight shell, too Hope this might help.

Check the diagram you are using is for the correct model you have . The diagram in the Re Printed (Auz) manual that i use in the workshop looks like and shows the original "M" manual but the wiring is for the "A" model as i found out trying to trace a problem when adding new switch gear ,

If I remember correctly the wire plug connectors are colour coded and the white plugs that look the same have a coloured line on them to correspond to the coloured plug they match to.
