My Re5's throttle closes slowly, and I have traced the cause back to the port valve. I first thought that the return spring was weak and changed both springs with the ones from my spare motor. It seems like the port valve is harder to turn on the motor in the bike. My question is does the pivot point for the port valve get gunked up? If so I guess you have to take the carb and manifold off to clean it? Cheers, Martin

You could try just squirting some WD40 behind the port valve "box" that's fitted to the side of the proper unit below the carby and as much as possible behind the shaft that the pulley is attached to.
I would imagine that any "gunkiness" that would cause the port valve to be sticky would be on it's shaft and not the valve itself. A bit of a WD40 flood may allow some of it to penetrate the shaft area and help to loosen it up.
Failing that, yes, carby off and inlet manifold off and then you could squirt WD40 directly onto the PV shaft where it sits in the secondary inlet throat. Accompany that with some PV "exercising" and it might help. WD40 is sometimes effective in dissolving sticky residues.

in case this is the issue with mine, did the WD40 trick work?
