I want to take this opportunity to thank Jess Stockwell for quickly and professionally fixing my 76 RE5. Jess, I was able to ride the bike about 100 miles over the weekend and it runs very well.
The story with the bike is it became increasingly hard to start and, once running, it wouldn't idle. I asked Jess to look at it and he discovered the bike only had about 75# compression. It appears the chamber oiling system (clog/blockage) may have contributed to the problem. In addition the starter sprag clutch was in failure mode.
Luckily I had bought a NOS proper unit from Sam a couple years ago and using the NOS unit, Jess very quickly repaired all issues and tuned the bike.
Thanks Jess,
Frank T Decatur, AL

Frank,
You are absolutely welcome. Glad that I could do it for you.
It is a beautiful bike and I hope that you enjoy it for many many miles.
Thanks for the post, and your kind words...
Enjoy... and best regards.
Jess

The oiling system scares me to death. Once I get my bike running reasonably well I will be checking that gizmo ALL THE TIME!
I have a mark (piece of tape) on the oil tank that I place at the top of the level but I will do the service manual check monthly or more often for a while. I have a nice graduated cylinder for that.
