Aah ok. When I was researching bits, I couldn't find a closer match in size. These fit ok and on two engine rebuilds don't seem to have noticeable excess smoke. If you find a better fit, let us know as I have one more proper unit waiting for a rebuild as a shelf spare.

Well fingers crossed my rebuild will not use excess oil . To continue . Some thing I did earlier in the build to ensure easy rebuild was to make sure the dowels fit smoothly in the side plate as I don't want to be struggling at the final stage and a chance of di lodging and side or corner seals..

Attachment DeletedI have measured the Journal sides and compared them with the Journal shell , as out of the limit of 0.13mm would only aid the excess smoke. I fitted all the Viton rubber seals with some grease to stop them popping out. I then used the Seal Ring Handler No4 , this was easer than the other side as you can practice and place it in the write place to cover the corner seals. When I was happy with its position I compressed the Ring and TAPED the handlers handle together , I now have both hand free to lower the Greased side plate on with the fixed gear journal in place ,

I was lucky to have three pairs of hands at this point inc one pair making tea.............. Back to my oil control ring o rings ! As i understand from a post on the site the groove in the ring is 1.6 deep, The o ring is say 1.78 so the protrusion is .18 ? very fine line, Will look into alternative size.........

Many thanks to everybody who has posted here on the proper unit rebuilds - great information. I think I might have to attempt this too so this thread is invaluable. Does anyone know where I can get a copy (paper or digital) of the Rotary Engine Service Manual? I'm assuming it's needed for all the torque settings and tolerances?

Would think what had gone is your core plugs ...They rot and then coolant wiil enter the gear box and come out behind the starter motor .....? If on the right side ...Easy fix ...

Hi Glenn RE5 There are no coolant in the gearbox - " just in the rotorhouse " :-( I will try this: For a unit rebuild I use the following stock listed Viton o-rings: 2x 1.78mm x 120.37mm for the rotor side seals 8x 1.6mm x 13.1mm for the side housings For sealing of the side housings I order custom made glued Viton seals: 2x 282mm x 2.0mm for the outer groves 2x 224mm x 2.00mm for the inner groves The point where the rings are glued, is to be placed at the coldest point of the housing, which are in the middle of the inlet port. simplybearings.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=512628 Read more: re5rotary.proboards.com/thread/1181/proper-unit-rebuild#ixzz4JNEg7WHqRegards Kim
