I did this mod about eighteen months ago, and it seemed to work great. The bike has not been used for over a year now as its been stripped down for restoration. There was a small amount of residual fuel left in the tank and tap. Today i disassembled the tap for the first time since and I found that the JB Weld used to fill in the void had actually swollen slightly to the point where there was an impression of the holes from the rubber gasket. i didn't check to see whether this would cause the tap to leak, but it surely wouldn't be helping the situation. If you suspect yours is leaking it may pay to check this?

Good info, I've always wondered what JBWeld's resistance to fuel may be. Probably goes for Devcon putty steel as well.

Maybe I have been lucky but I have been successful finding the right o ring and making sure the seat is good. I'm spoiled to the convenience of being automatic operation. Tim

The problem I have with the fuel tap is the outlet pipe coming adrift from the body of the tap. Anyone else have this problem? Mine is now fixed in place using epoxy putty.

Mine's loose so I can see where it's going to end up. So yes, I have this problem too.

Mine too. I just pushed it in a bit harder with a little bit of Devcon.

Mine was loose originally and I stuck it in with JB. I wanted to remove it the other day to restore the entire petcock and I had to use the heat gun to get it out. It seems that although th JB was affected slightly by the fuel in the filled cavity of the tap it still retains a lot of its strength? Time will tell, but I plan on reinstalling the fitting with JB again.

ap951, thanks for the clever idea, post, and great clear pics. Others responding to this post and mentioning a product Hylomar, which one specifically are you using? They make a wide range of products.
