Does anyone know off the top of their head if a GT550 front wheel fits? I have a decent looking GT550 wheel, the RE5 one that I have has rusty spokes. This will be a stop gap measure as the 550 wheel has a chrome rim and the RE5 aluminum but would be a nice temporary upgrade. Cheers, Martin
Also, good news I have the bike turning over with the starter motor and I have a pretty healthy looking spark!

GT 550 is a steel rim, the RE5 is alloy. I have never heard of anyone putting this combo together.

Would not take very long to change it out, let us know if it works out. If you have both of the forks in place, measure the distance between them to see if they are the same width.

Yep, same hub...
That hub is common to many models, not the least of which are all the disc-braked GT's, all the wire-wheeled GS's and (outside of the US) GSX's and the RE.

Thanks when (if) I get it running I'll, at least temporarily swap the wheels out. The front wheel on the bike right now has ugly rusty spokes.

Hi Martin, it may be worth getting a new spark plug (if you don't allready have one) The bike I bought would not start for the previous owner, but had a great spark so someone had been in the carb and really messed it up, when I got the carb back from RR and tried it I nearly flattened the battery trying to start it, put my new plug in, pressed the button started straight away no hesitation. The difference was unbelievable.
Good luck.
Regards Stuart.

It may be the battery, the "idiot" lights all pulsate when the motor slowly turns over (like the battery is flat). Although the battery has done 0 miles, it is a Made in China job, less than half the width of the battery box. I will attempt to jump start the bike from my TLR this weekend. It seems like it is only cranking over at about 1/4 of the speed necessary to start the bike. The plug is dry, at the slow speed that it is cranking over it is not enough vacuum to draw the gas in? My TLR will not start either if the starter motor does not spin fast enough.
