Your RE5 has a bathroom?
The RE5 was truly ahead of it's time.

It was a little known factory option for American riders with weak bladders. ;D

I would like to know more about the "M" models that were converted to "A" models. What do you suppose they did with all those speedometers they took off.... Jeez, I wish I had an NOS one laying around, mine's toast.... I have two "A" models and I think both of them were converted from "M's" because there is a ball of wiring terminations in electrical tape behind the headlight, and both had spots on the sidecovers where the black paint flaked off to reveal orange underneath! Now if I could just find that old Suzuki tech with a trunk of soup can speedos.....

To snow:
Nope... that is how the harness came from the factory... Most likely. They look a mess, but they are original. Without seeing yours I cannot be 100%, but my best guess is they are the way they came from the factory.
Suzuki gave orders to destroy the parts from the M's they converted. Dealers were to destroy the parts or return them. Suzuki got very cranky if they found out that the part were being saved. A few actually did survive.
Now you might undertand how hard it is to come up with these parts in any condition whatsoever.
I always find it interesting when a person calls me and want xyz parts NOS. I get one call a month from someone who thinks I should be able to sell them an NOS tank, sidecovers, and headlamp bucket, in blue... no less! We won't even discuss what they think they should cost...
I suggest that they call their local Chevrolet dealer and tell them they need two fenders and a hood for a 1975 Vega... in yellow. By the way, They made hundreds of thousands of Vega's... See how long it takes for the part guy to stop laughing... Sometimes they get my point... sometimes they don't...
I have two NOS M clusters. One is a prototype. The other is not for sale at any price. To me it is priceless...
We have to remember total production was about 6300. No one is really 100% certain. About 3500 M 's were produced. How many of those were converted by Suzuki to A's is anyones guess.
In short... I wish I had a trunk full too. I am, however, proud of the fact that we can provide almost any part for the bike on any given day.
Think about that... There is one place where you can get almost every part for your bike... one stop shopping! Is there a place like that for your 74 Norton?
Just some thoughts.
Best
