That was what I was wondering. I thought the disc may have jammed somewhere but no sign of it. I'm wondering what would happen with a plug such as this missing? Would it overheat?

If in the past the motor was run with insufficient anti-freeze and stood in cold conditions ,maybe the water would expand and the pressure could cause the core plug to let go and leak.If the motor was then run it could have overheated and seized the rotor.I think the core plug is a relief valve for the motor if the cooling system expands with cold temperatures which saves the engine from cracking etc.Cheers,Shaun.

That makes sense. It sounds like there's not much chance of recovering this unit but I'll continue to soak the apex seals & see if I can free it up - I wonder what happened to the missing plug? Thanks again for passing on your knowledge Shaun. If anyone else has any comments/experience of this type of damage please do let me know. Nick

Hi Shaun,
He's part of the VJMC as I am and lives in Somerset, he bought the one advertised in this months Tansha magazine.
I know someone in Devon who bought two RE5s last year within a couple of weeks of each other on eBay, an A and an M, he's called Mark.

The bolt that you need to pull the alternator rotor is 14 x 1.5 x 40. The length is approximate.
