I know Tim through the Mazda rotaries. Very cool that we was able to do the show with Jay!

From what Jay said, he bought his RE5 from Tim. I'm sure that's an experience he will never forget.

Jay Leno's RE-5 had some sort of extension on the exhaust pipes yet he called it stock. Were the pipes stock for some year?

The extensions are part of the touring kit. They were designed to keep the exhaust (hot) from melting the fibreglass factory bags.
They are a suzuki accessory and came with the fairing and bags. They only produced about 200 sets... so they are rare.
So... Short answer... yep stock.
Best,
Jess

I am hoping they will make the video again available along with older archives. Recognize the magazine? Tim

I like Jay Leno's garage & I've watched many of the video's including the one with Tim & the RE5. I clicked on this post to see what Wayne was talking about & I read the comment earlier from Tim hoping "they will make the video again available." I clicked on the link at the top of this post & sure enough the video is no longer available. Did Jay sell the RE5? I started watching other video's & found the RE on a lift in the background of this video. The date is June 27, 2014. Looks like their working on it. www.nbc.com/jay-lenos-garage/video/automotive-trophy-sculptor-dwight-h-bennett/2795038?onid=155411#vc155411=1

Well since I've commented on and advised that Henry Abe wheels can be used on an RE5, I really need to advise a little further.
They look nice enough, but the quality is marginal. I've had to have one machined to get the rear wheel bearing tolerance where it should be, it was that sloppy.
More importantly, they are only good for smooth roads. Do a bit of dirt roading or high speeds on potholed roads and they fall apart. Back in the day I had to have the front welded in two places(one of the cracks was nearly 2" long) and eventually tossed them when the rear started to crack. They were given a hard life but they are well below the standard of a stock Jap mag wheel. Use with caution.

Good eye for detail Bill. I noticed the change to Jay Lenos garage website after he left the Tonight Show and only making recent shows available right now.
