The shields on my RE5 are chrome. All others that I see are always black. I think I might have seen one other RE5 with chrome shields. What's up with that? Did any of the RE5's come stock with chrome ones?

Gary i have not got my RE5 parts book yet but if somone has one can they check the numbers to verify if theres more than one guard shown. Its also possible it could have been an "accessory" from Suzuki to dress the Re5 up. Of note was Sam at RR who told me the luggage racks NEVER came to the US as an optional item, only grab rails are offered as optional, while both items were available in the European market. The chrome guards you have could also have been a "Euro only" item.

Interesting info Allan. I have the luggage rack too. Will probably leave it on the bike.

Hey Gary ill swap a grab rail for your luggage rack/rail combo.... By the way has anyone ever seen an M model in firemist red with the silver stripes??? It seems they are not too common and i only have a few photos of one such bike. I think the silver stands out much better on the red, but its just an opinion..

Muffler shield were never offered in chrome in the US or overseas. They should be a semi gloss black. On later bikes they look as though the factory used a rattle can I powder coat all of mine... lasts great! Send 'em to me and I'll coat them for you... Best, Jess

Jess id be careful making statments like 'never offered' as it can come back to haunt you,,,LOL Sure someone could esily have chrome plated the guards in the past, but its also a known fact that the domestic market in Japan got items that were never allowed for export too. A lot of things we outsiders think as correct for the product sometimes are not a stock or standard item in Japan. All someone has to do technically is visit Japan and buy the item, bring it home and fit it on.
Many thanks for the offer of doing the powder coating on the shields i'll take you up on it for sure when i want mine redone.

Ok... To my knowledge, Suzuki did not offer chrome muffler shields either here or overseas as standard or optional equipment. I would be willing to bet a "C" note that no where on earth a Suzuki catalouge exists with chrome plated muffler shields as a Suzuki option for the Re5 Best, Jess

That in itself could be another problem since the chrome shields might or might not have been a Suzuki accessory product. I cant even find a Suzuki catalogue listing for a luggage rack that was on my 99 Bandit when i got it, built specifically for the bike apparently it doesnt seem to exist....

Now I'm curious where they came from. Maybe the previous owner had them chromed or polished. I'm going to leave them as they are cause I think they look good.
