I believe this site is pricesless. The wealth of knowledge here is staggering, if one takes the time to look. Unfortunately, attitudes have shifted and many seem to want the immediate gratification that FB gives. If it were up to me, I would shut it down. There are 525 members. At the time of my post, there have been 33 votes. That means that approximately 6% of the folks registered on the site cared enough to take the time to respond. If I were funding and maintaining the site, this would be too small a number for me to continue to take my time to keep it going. As always, just my 2 cents... and probably not even worth that. Best regards, Just pleased its not up to you just my 2p Regards Stuart

I noticed that there are now 34 votes to keep the forum open. And still not one for "No need for it" Are you the 34th vote Jess?

How many of the 525 members have posted in the last 5 years how many are active, how many have passed, this site is a hive of activity if you have ever been a member of the VJMC or Rotary Owners Club, send a message to the 200 daily visitors that site access is only available to contributing members. I visit the site about once a week. But I don't always log in. I can always log in from now on if that helps gather more accurate data. This is the only RE5 site worth visiting in my opinion. I would be really bummed out if it disappeared. If it disappeared I would be making lots of phone calls to the experts on this site like I used to do with Sam. And I don't think that will be too popular...
I guess that I am surprised that the low visiting numbers is a problem. We all know that there are very few RE5s, including owners who are technically proficient and not intimidated by it. No one buys one to be included in a big family. RE5 owners are typically older and have lots of other things going on in their lives. Raising kids, running businesses doesn't give us owners the amount of time as enthusiastic 20 somethings. If the RE5 ever gets featured in a big Hollywood movie like the shiny but commercial flop Delorean did then its popularity might go up with younger riders with lots of time and $. (But that's unlikely to happen)
Sam told me many years ago about how all of the RE5 enthusiast magazines would start out as being very popular, but interest would wane and they eventually would go out of business. I assumed that "the internet" would solve this problem since there was no paper printing and mailing cost, the online forums allow two-way communication which gives much more value for everyone and instant access to the whole catalog of information and pictures.
Maybe if I understood the financials of running this site and the effect of membership then I could see what the real problem is.
I love this site and I'd be happy to pitch in some annual $$ if that helps keep it running.
Al

One statement regarding the accuracy of this poll...
The poll started Oct 20 and ends on the 28th. That is only 8 days. Many of the members are those who occasionally check in, (myself very much included). So this poll will get very low total numbers. I'm actually shocked that its as high as being in the 30's four days in. I would have guessed 20 people would see it in a week.
If accurate data is important then the poll should run for a significantly longer period of time.

In this case AL, I think the exact opposite of what you have described is true.
This particular thread has been posted/shilled on the Facebook Re5 group at least two times in the last couple of days to drive activity to this site. If it had not been posted there, my bet is that there would be far less “answers to the poll”.
Right now there are several active new threads here, possibly posted by folks wanting to drive traffic up on the site. Maybe not... I don’t have access to the site analytics.
But Hey... I’m a fan of the site. I would like it to survive. I think my commitment to the site is without question as I am one of a handful of folks that have posted the number of posts that I have. I have been here since it began.
However, my honest answer to the OP’s question is that the site is dying. I don’t know what it costs to keep up and running. I would contribute, no question. BUT... If I were the admin, I certainly would question is it worth the time??? Hence my earlier post that was liked so much it was copied and pasted into others posts.
All of the above is MY opinion, I believe that I am expressing my opinion in a courteous and respectful way while answering the OP’s question.
YMMV...
Best Regards,

Hi Jess: I actually didn't think about other groups driving traffic to this site but that would explain the higher number of responses than I expected. I dont mind having extra traffic here but it will likely return to the normal level in a week or two. But I will certainly login from now on instead of lurking if that helps. (hopefully others will as well)
For this site to be sustainable it will need to be able to function with a low level of traffic without it being a financial loss and/or be a time waste for the admin and moderator. I guess the low traffic reduces any revenue coming in from advertisers... Maybe the admin can give us a rough overview of how much it is costing him in $ and time per year.
Hopefully we can come up with a reasonable way of keeping it running in a sustainable manner for the long haul.

I will respond more, probably Sunday evening but I would say that the last 2 sentences of my original post are a good summation of all that needs to be done to keep our interest going. Nobody has to pay anything. Just show an interest. And Yes, Jess joined (with a different user id) 2 days after the site was created and he has contributed constantly since that time. He is the only active member from that group of people who first signed up. Plus he linked from his website to this forum years ago. I believe that without that link this site wouldn't be here anymore.

I think its time to not let 'guests' see all the content make them sign up to see the info. Im guilty of just browsing the forum without logging in as there is no need to log in to see the information, new posts etc. So I think the stats could be misleading if its only based on log ins regards Terry

I've considered the value of compulsory logins. However it wasn't the number of logins that first caught my attention. It was the number of posts per day. When reviewed over time, the falloff was plain to see.
Making it a requirement to login won't change that and posts are the heart beat of any forum. The latter we can't force people to do.

Another observation:
The top three posters on the forum are responsible for 25% of the posts... #1. About 11%, #2 About 8% #3 about 6% (all rounded up)
The top 5 posters bring it up to 32%.
19% of members have NEVER made a post...
57% of all members (including the 19% that have never posted) have made 5 or less posts. So In all likelihood, 57% have not posted more than the 5th place contributor to the site...combined.
All of this is from public information on the member list. I have no access to the administrator tools of the site.
I understand the frustration of the site admin and moderator. I also understand them questioning the continued efficacy of the site.
If this site is about Participation of members, it is long dead, and rotting. If it is intended to be a repository or encyclopedia of knowledge, I suppose it won’t hurt to leave it up.
I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT HAPPENS TO SITE... It ain’t mine.
**** Anyone who wishes to copy and paste and take shots at me... may feel free to do so.**** Best Regards,

At the risk of being ridiculed I have never logged onto Facebook. I found this web site years ago from a link on the old Rotary Recycle website.
The only thing I have to add is that I respect whatever the Administrator & Moderator decide. I think they have both done an outstanding job

A lot of forums have lost out to social media sites like FB. Especially such specialized sites like this one. But the social media sites don't contain the depth of knowledge that sites like this has.Keep it rolling and don't worry about posts per day.

If it helps any, this thread inspired me to pull the carb off my RE5 this weekend and start doing some work toward getting her running again.
