Hi all, my name is Patrick. I'm here looking for help with my Dads '76 Re5A. My Dad bought the bike new in '76. He put almost 6k miles on it, but always had issues with keeping it running nicely. which meant he usually rode his yamaha. The yamaha was stolen in the early '80s then myself and my three siblings showed up and the RE5 was left alone in the garage until 2 years ago we pulled it out and took it to a local motorcycle mechanic. Turns out the mechanic fell off the grid and had the bike for 2 years and did nothing to it aside from leaving it outside. Last week I got ahold of the guys son and was able to retrieve the bike thankfully, but now I've got to start over. My dad doesn't know I got his bike back yet I was hoping to get it going and surprise him with it in time for vintage days at Mid-ohio
So, starting over. I have the bike and a box of parts. I don't have a lot of time to work on it so I'm really hoping to find someone nearby who knows what they are doing around the rotary, and is willing to help get it back on the road. I'm in Akron, Ohio. I have ordered a spark plug adapter from Stuart, But that is all I have done so far.
Things on the to do list: Por15/kreem the tank as it is very rusty inside. Check fluids check if rotor is still free. Test compression. Need new air filter. Need tires. Need battery. Clean points. Check or replace condenser.
Probably a hundred more things that will need to happen. If you have any opinions on how I should go about any of these things I would greatly appreciate it. Ill try to get some pictures on here if I can figure it out.

I hate to hear that the mechanic pushed it aside for 2 years. I have heard that story more times than I can count...
They are very few folks that specialize in the Re5. Not many shops will touch them. If you would like to give me a call, I might be able to point you in the right direction.
My number is 931-308-9704. I am in Tennessee.
Best Regards,
