Hi Folks,
I am a returning member after working in Nigeria for a spell.
The wonderful weather at the weekend made me realise that my RE5 has been dormant in the garage just too long and i need to get it road worthy. Now we are lucky in the UK, as of 20th of May a road legalness test (MOT) is no longer required on 40 year old motorcycles, but i would like to know my heaviest motorcycle was running at its best and safely most importantly.
It starts and runs ok, but would benefit from some TLC on the finesse of set up, and wondered if there was somebody in the UK that was into fettling a RE5 to full loveliness that forum members could suggest.
Many thanks for any suggestions/advice, regards, Ian

I'll still be taking my bikes in for an annual look over by my mot guy as although I keep them in tip top condition, you never know what you might have missed yourself 😊

Hi
Regarding the MOT excemption, I am not clear if older bikes are automatically exempt from May 20 or we have to declare them exempt using form V112. At the moment I believe that even though my RE5 is registered as a Vehicle of Historic Interest and therefore the tax rate is 0, I think I still have to register it as MOT exempt when I next tax it. Unless anyone knows anything different?

You are indeed correct you must complete an MOT exemption form (V112) or you will fall foul of the law.

Just coming back on subject, there used to be an advert on Ebay for RE5 servicing, but they appear to have disappeared/not replying based in Scarborough, are they a member and perhaps by PM are they worth using?

The member from Scarbourough has not been well and out of action for the last 6 months or so and the future for him returning to the bikes in the next 6 months is not looking good. I will add information as and when I hear from his family of friends. If I can help at all in servicing I am in Stafford Regards Roger

Mine simply says that they would inspect the vehicle as part of a claim to check road worthiness. I wonder if having a voluntary mot will help in a claim. I guess its going to be a few years to see how it all works in practice.

My insurance company requires photos of individual bikes. Im not sure if that makes them road worthy? For my own peace of mind I think I will continue with MOT
