Awesome, thanks for posting that Wayne (and Michel).
Absolutely that's what these forums are about- I know I would have been a bit lost at times without the wealth of information here!

Norton use two piece seals in their rotary engines with great sucess. They did use three piece seals for a while but found they had more wear issues. One advantage of two piece seals is during a rebuild of a high milliage engine such as my 208,000 mile Norton Commander the seals can be put in upside down (small triangle part first followed by the long seal or the other way round, can't remember off hand) to compensate for housing wear. This was done to my bike on the last rebuild to extend the housing life.
Regards, Joe.

Sorry this is not RE5 info but may be of interest to Norton and Hercules / DKW owners. Ceramic seals are aslo available for Norton Wankel engines. These can be bought from Wolf Engineering or Aixro in Germany. These will also fit DKW W2000 or Hercules W2000 engines as they are the same dimensions as Norton. Norton purchased the trochoid grinder from Sachs so the rotor housing were machined on the same machine as Hercules. My DKW had a Norton rotor and Norton seals/ springs.
Regards, Joe.

Yup, it's all good info. We're not all one eyed RE5 fanatics...

Michel, do you know if they sell the apex seal springs? I asked them in my email but maybe it was lost in translation.... they replied with the quote but nothing about the springs...

Hi,
Finally i find the problem of low compression for my bike.
A lot of dirt and the seals are over.
Check the photos.
Awful.
Now, i'm trying to find the apex seals in Europe.
Does anybody know someone who sell them?
Thanks for your help

You might be in luck.
I have it in mind that the RE5 rotor and that from a NSU Spider have the same dimensions.
I wonder if soemeone from the Wankel Spider Club might be able to advise? Do you know Michael Fabritius?
Good luck.
David

There are folks overseas that claim to rebuild the proper unit.
If that is no longer an option, I still have some used, tested engines.
Best,

Best, Michel from Belgium (a board member typ 110...) rebuilds the units (even with ceramic parts) for both NSU RO80 and SUZUKI RE5. He gives a one year guarantee on the unit and until this moment has never had any complaints. Not cheap and transport overseas will add firmly to the bill.

Do you know Michael Fabritius? Good luck. David I had a close look at Thomas' bike. I am surely not a great mechanic but in the 4 years I restored my own RE5 I have some "try and error" experience.Surely the fact that I could press the kick "by hand" is not a good sign. There is Fuel , air , great spark (timing is ok)....but almost zero compression.
