Calipers done, lines cleaned out, now it's time to do the master cylinder. It was a tad bit dirty inside. Getting close to being able to take it for bit of a ride around the neighborhood. It cleaned up nicely but I didn't have time to put the guts back in.

Wrapped up the brakes and decided o ride it around the neighborhood. It ran poorly at first then gradually got better. Me thinks I need to pull the carb and clean it again though. The bikes shifts well, stops, and it was a blast getting the thing out for a bit even though it was only around the neighborhood. Another milestone has been reached but there's still a lot of time, work, and money to spend ahead.

That's a real bonus about the seat cushion... and wow you've got your work ahead of you with those indicators. Maybe try sanding and polishing them? There are also ways to rechrome them and also silver "paint" them that looks like chrome which you then clear coat. The internet (google) is your friend!

Andy, took them, the exhaust from the parts bike, and a few other pieces to the chromers today. Costing $600US for what I took and told it was ok to wait till the end of a vat when dipping the stuff. He agreed with you, they were rough, real rough. We talked about powder coating but i decided on getting them rechromed.

Was able to find a kind soul who was willing to trade my blue side covers and tank for some firemist red ones so now the bike is the same color mine was back in the day. A huge THANK YOU to the person who made the trade!
On another note, had to pull my "cleaned" carburetor because the liquid steel I used to patch the hole failed and it was leaking badly. Took it to see if it could be repaired and when it was taken apart there was crap still inside it in some areas that I totally missed.
Moral of the story is clean twice, then clean again.....and listen to folks out there that know these bikes inside and out!

Not a bad price for the chrome work. I was quoted $350 per exhaust...

The bike runs much better when the vacuum line is hooked up to the petcock...... Was adjusting the idle speed and saw I didn't hook it up when I put the tank back on.
